Now then, on to other things ...
If you're wondering why this issue is late (again!), it's because
I've found another extremely useful keyword tool. I'll come back
to why that delayed Biz Bits in a minute. First let me tell you
about the tool ...
It's called SpellWeb, and uses data from the Excite, Infoseek and
Fast search engines. The idea behind SpellWeb is to enable you to
check 2 variant spellings of a word, and see which version is
used most online.
Sounds pretty dull eh?
Perhaps it is ... until you start thinking about using SpellWeb
to assist you in selecting keywords for your pages ...
The following sample comparisons I made will help you better
understand what I'm driving at, and a provide a clearer picture
of the potential:
'business' compared with 'bussiness'
------------------------------------
23,456,741 votes for business
29,525 votes for bussiness
The Web decides (courtesy of FAST) that business is more popular.
16,246,673 votes for business
5,592 votes for bussiness
The Web decides (courtesy of Infoseek) that business is more
popular.
(The Excite version wasn't working)
Hmmm ... that's quite lot of people looking for 'bussiness'.
However, it's few enough to mean that you probably won't face
stiff competition to rank well under the search term 'bussiness'.
Worth considering? Maybe ...
How many misspellings are there that you could quite easily rank
well for? A *lot* I bet! Use SpellWeb to discover if they are
used often enough to target. Just remember to make sure that any
keyword in your meta tag, appears at least once on your page
(preferably near the top).
Or what about this one? ...
'free ezine' compared with 'free e-zine'

The Excite version still wasn't working. A pity since there is
such a large discrepancy between the results of Fast and
Infoseek. From these results it would seem that you'd better use
both (I'll have to change that on some of my own pages!).
And don't forget about synonyms ... for example, you could check
how often 'money' is used compared to 'cash', etc.
Hopefully by now your head is beginning to buzz with ideas for
the use of this neat little tool!
When you use this in conjunction with the Goto keyword suggestion
tool, you get a very powerful combination.

If you don't know what the Goto tool is ... where have you been?
;-) Goto's keyword suggestion tool tells you how many times
people have searched for your keyword, or any phrase containing
it. Results are listed in order, with the most popular searches
at the top. It's *very* useful.

You can use the Goto tool to find good keywords, and then make
quick checks on possible variants or synonyms with SpellWeb. You
can also use SpellWeb first to find popular variants and synonyms
of words, and then use Goto to find different keyword phases
using those words.
Oh yes, why is Biz Bits late? Well ...
I was just going to tell you about the tools and give you the
links. Then as I was writing I thought to myself "Azam, if you're
going to do it, do it properly. Put it all in one place where
it's easy to use both tools at once." So I stopped writing and
went off to throw a web page together. Here's the URL:

I haven't 'plumbed' the page into the rest of the site yet (you
get it first before anyone else), so make sure you bookmark it
when you get there. Otherwise you'll have to come back to this
link every time you wish to visit again.
The page isn't 100% finished yet, but everything is functional.
Clicking on the links will open each tool in a small window of
it's own (you can have both open at once). As a suggestion, once
you have both windows open, you might want to navigate to the
"Meta Tag Maker" page. This will enable you to cut and paste
keywords as you go along, and mail them to yourself using the
Meta Tag Maker.
One other quick tip ... I've designed the pop up windows so that
you can still use your top menu bar when they are open. I did
this specifically so that you can quickly save your Goto keyword
suggestions to your computer. From the "File" menu select "Save
as" and then in the dialog box that opens, choose the "text"
option. Your search results will be saved for future reference
quicker than you can say "Goto keyword suggestions!"
