Hi,
Since I split Biz Bits into 2 parts, you may have noticed the
size of each seems to be steadily increasing, often to well over
the 20K mark (sometimes the combined size is nearly 60K!). As
that defeats the purpose of the split in the first place, I am
going to *try* my best to keep the size down from now on ...
The other day I came across what seems like a truly amazing piece
of freeware for PC owners. I say 'seems like' simply because I
use a Mac and so couldn't try it out personally (actually I wrote
this last week, but cut it out at the last minute because the
issue was too big!).
It's a WYSIWYG HTML editor, called 1st Page 2000. What
differentiates it from most free software applications, is the
sophistication and 'completeness' of the package. On the face of
it, it appears as good as - if not better - than many editors you
have to pay for. The company promise the software will always be
free, and you don't even need to register.
Rather than me waffling on about something I haven't been able to
try for myself, here are some of the main features, and the links

Remember our discussion on internet security a few weeks back?
Remember I said I was more concerned about the ethics of large
companies as opposed to the activities of individual hackers? And
that many seem to have an attitude of "If we can get away with
it, let's do it!"?
Well, I'm sure by now everyone has heard about the escapades of
DoubleClick, but here's another that's sure to make you sit up
and take notice.
GoHip.com are encouraging visitors to their site to download a
special Windows video browser. When they do so, an executable
file is copied to their system.
The file is executed automatically and makes GoHip.com the user's
homepage. However, even worse, a signature is added to their
outgoing email that reads: "Click here for Free Video!!
http://www.gohip.com/freevideo/."
Can you believe that?
Apparently, visitors are advised of this occurrence, though only
buried in the small print of the software agreement. Smells
pretty bad to me, and definitely another case of "If we can get
away with it ..."
