GATHERING OF THE CLAN
European regulators are gathering this month for a legislative
shakedown, and at the top of the list will be the high cost of
Internet access in Europe. To be held in Lisbon on March 23, the
summit will mark the first time EU politicians have come together
for the express purpose of addressing the impact of the Internet
on the European economy. One of the primary goals of the event is
to look at how primary telecom companies incumbent in most
European countries have kept a lock on the price of Internet
access. Industry representatives are applauding the government
initiative, saying it is what's called for to promote the
Internet economy on the continent.

NET ON WHEELS
A Swedish super-trio of Ericsson, Volvo and telephone company
Telia are building a suite of products for Internet-connected
cars, letting drivers get information on the go. The products
will be marketed to automotive manufacturers, and will include
roadside and emergency assistance services, and even remote
diagnostics support. The three companies have formed a joint
venture to develop the products and services. Called WirelessCar,
it will be located in Gothenburg, Sweden. The all-Swedish trio is
a smack in the face to neighboring Finland, which is competing
for leadership status in the world of wireless.
