You may be concerned that using PLR content could damage your reputation if, for example, your customer obtains the same product from another website, and as a result realizes you didn't create the product yourself.
That concern is understandable, but less of an issue than you may be inclined to think.
Unless your market is very small, the vast majority of your customers will never know you didn't create the product yourself anyway. That's simply because firstly they won't have come across, and then secondly actually bought or downloaded what turns out to be the same product as yours with a different name. The Internet is a BIG place!
In addition, most of the PLR products you'll come across are either only available from within a member-capped PLR membership site, or are sold in specifically limited numbers – usually ranging from as low as 20 to as many as 350. But even if the product you have in your hands wasn't officially limited, it will be naturally limited by demand. In any single niche there are numerous PLR products to choose from, the bigger the niche, the more choices there are, further limiting the demand for any particular product.
PLR Product Distribution
Let's take an extreme example, and say the same PLR product that you posses has been downloaded by another 500 people. The first thing to realize is that very few of those people will actually do anything with the product! You might find that hard to believe at first, but it's a fact. Have a look at your own computer – how many different products (of whatever kind) do you have that are just sitting there unused and gathering dust?
Out of 500, maybe 50-100 (10-20%) will actually do something with the product after downloading it. Of the minority who do take action, few of those will then actually see it through to the end... and even fewer will market it successfully enough for it to have much (or any) visibility.
As you can see, the reality is that you will be competing with far fewer people than you might have initially thought. Even if another 499 copies of the PLR product have been downloaded, there will probably be less than a couple of dozen derivative products being actively promoted.
On top of that, most of those who do take their project all the way will have substantially altered the original PLR material, mashed it with other PLR products, created bundles or repositioned it to target other markets.
Ensure The PLR Material Isn't Recognized
All that leads us nicely into the fact that if you want to avoid any chance that any of your customers realize you used PLR content, simply make enough modifications to make it unique.
That doesn't necessarily mean you have to do a lot of work yourself, but simply that you need to be a bit more creative, mixing and matching things around. For instance, you can delete parts of books, summarize text, reduce paragraphs to bullet points in your own words, add images, include excerpts from other PLR ebooks or articles, etc.
Bear in mind however, that you'll have to substantially rewrite PLR articles if you plan to use them as standalone articles (as opposed to included content in an ebook, report or another article) and want them to appear unique.
So Few Know About PLR Products
Another thing to realize is that even if your customers do come across the same product elsewhere, outside of the Internet marketing niche, very few of them (if any) will have ever heard of private label content, and are more likely to assume you licensed the product to someone else. It's human nature – because they got it from you first, people will tend to think you are the original creator and have some agreement allowing the other website owner to put their name on it!
But when all is said and done, as long as you give your customers what they want and provide a quality product at the right price, even the few who might realize you aren't the original author aren't likely to care. Like all customers, they are interested in themselves, in what the product can do for them. Who created the product is of little importance. What matters is who can provide the solutions they seek.
