European Union antitrust regulators have given Microsoft more time to prove it is complying with a requirement to fairly license its server software communications protocols. Computer World reports that Microsoft will soon sell digital music online without digital rights management (DRM) protection. According to the article, the EMI agreement with Apple was a non-exclusive agreement which Microsoft can take advantage of in order to meet consumer demands for the unprotected music that they desire.
