There are many ways to get links to your website for greater link popularity and pagerank, most of which I have written about at some point over the last 8 years. These days however, because the search engines have realized how easy it is to arrange link exchanges simply to get more backlinks, what you really need are one-way links (a link from another site to yours without you giving a link back is a one-way link). The goal-posts have moved again and reciprocal links just don’t cut it any more.

Here are two of the best and easiest free methods currently available for getting good one-way links:

Using Social Bookmark Websites
I know some people reading this won’t know what social bookmark sites are, so bear with me a minute while I explain.

Sites like del.icio.us, blinklist.com, furl.net, blogmarks.net, linkrolling.com, etc., are basically social bookmark sites. I don’t want to go into great detail, but in essence the idea behind them is that you get a public space in which to post bookmarks and comments on your favorite web pages to share with other users / surfers.

What’s important as far as we are concerned is that most of the social bookmark sites are heavily spidered by the search engines and have high PR, and they are just sitting there waiting for links to your pages.

Take a moment and think about what we’ve got here — one-way links with your keywords in the anchor text from high PR sites — it doesn’t get much better than that!

Open an account or two at as many social bookmark sites as you can handle, and link away …

Here’s a few tips:

  1. Throw in links to other places along with those to your own pages, especially if you don’t own many websites. Narcissists aren’t uncommon, but it might help you to make it a little less obvious what you’re up to.
  2. Don’t go overboard and spam the place to death, and be warned that if you do, your account and links will simply get deleted
  3. Keep a record of your URL postings to each account in a spreadsheet, so you can get a nice “random” selection of links from each account to your different sites.
  4. Post like a regular user. That means human, naturally, not like a bot. Vary the number of links you post, how often you post, times, which accounts, etc.
  5. This is a slow job, so consider getting either BookmarkingDemon or Auto Social Poster Pro to DRAMATICALLY speed the process up. There are a couple of other applications out there, but these are the only two worth buying IMHO. The latter is a little pricey, but really does put the task on complete “hands-off” autopilot while offering the best randomization options — it’s the cream of the crop. BookmarkingDemon is a Windows appplication and Auto Social Poster Pro installs directly on your blogs (only half of the 999 copies available left). Both allow you to add new social bookmark sites into the software.

That was longer than intended, so we’ll talk about the other method next time. It’s not quite as powerful or as easy as social bookmarking, but good for one-way links all the same …
